fault-tolerant PLC that uses a triple modular redundant
(TMR)architecture in which three parallel control paths are
integrated into a single overall system. The system is designed to
use two-out-of-three voting with the intent of providing
uninterruptedprocess operation with no single point of random
hardware failure. However, since all three ofthe parallel paths use
identical hardware and software, common- cause failure is possible
in both hardware and software.
